If your drug screen initially screens positive, it will automatically go into confirmation testing. If the result is still positive, you will be contacted by a licensed physician, called a Medical Review Officer (MRO), to discuss your result before the official report is verified.
Legal medications can trigger positive results, such as over-the-counter sinus and cold medications that contain pseudoephedrine, which can cause a false positive result for methamphetamine. Confirmatory testing after a positive result greatly lessens the chance of a false positive. All tests on this site include this confirmation step.
Urine adulteration, such as tampering with a urine sample, using synthetic urine, or using someone else’s urine, is prevented as much as possible in testing facilities. Lab technicians are well trained to detect any attempts at tampering, and if there is tampering, the test will be declared invalid and you will have to retake it. Also, people tend to believe that they can flush their system with water or over-the-counter solutions that claim to remove drugs from their system. However, there is no science to back up most of those methods. Generally, if someone has taken drugs, they cannot “beat” the test.
